It was Oil in for Hart Skincare founder Hannah McGregor-Shenton - Part 2

The urge to begin Hart Skincare was so strong, Hannah began the business with absolutely no savings and no financial help, using what she was earning each week waitressing to pay for what she needed. Just one month after launching the business in November 2019, the restaurant she was working at was closed and she was left with the realisation that it was truly all or nothing.

Hannah dived headfirst into markets (which she has now ceased to focus solely on her website and stockists) and received so much positive feedback on her flagship products, the Seed Collection, a cleanser suited to the skin-types of each menstrual phase, but Hannah was still battling much of her own skin troubles.

One of Hart Skincare’s Adelaide markets.

Despite the difference that going all-natural (eliminating plastics for foods, eating more brassicas) had made, and focussing on her menstrual cycle more, Hannah had a strong feeling that she had an oestrogen imbalance that was making her struggle with repeated breakouts, it was at this point that Hannah knew it was time to visit a Naturopath.

Hannah uncovered that her excessive oestrogen was down to having previously taken a high dose of synthetic oestrogen in the oral contraceptive pill (OCP). Her body had been used to the OCP with its high levels of oestrogen, then when the OCP was taken away, the body was making more in order to compensate.

Thankfully, with the help of her naturopath, Hannah was able to manage a lot of her hormonal imbalances. Thanks to her knowledge of skincare, she understood that something was out of whack and was able to seek help from a professional.

Please note that skincare isn’t the only thing that will *fix* your skin, a holistic approach is going to be an essential part of healing your skin and navigating hormonal imbalances.
